Why a basketball clinic?
When Johnathan Tate was born, his mother was incarcerated, and his grandmother stepped in to raise him. She not only cared for him but also took him to visit his mother in prison, where she introduced him to the game of basketball. Her skills in the sport sparked Johnathan’s passion, giving him something meaningful to focus on during those visits.
As he grew older, Johnathan learned from family members just how talented his mother truly was. This revelation shifted his perspective and inspired him to see the world differently. The challenges he faced early in life gave him a deeper sense of purpose and a strong desire to give back.
Now, when children come to him with questions or feel trapped in difficult circumstances, he shares his story as a testament to the power of faith and resilience. He tells them, “Don’t let the short-term situation of the adult in charge of you define your long-term goals. You may not be able to change the environment you were born into, but you can absolutely shape what comes next.”
Mastering the Simple
We don't want people to think you can look at someone else's life and achieve what they have achieved simply by watching. Kids today haven't worked on the simple. If you're right-handed, master that but master the left hand. If you can chest pass, master that but work on the bounce pass. Master the Simple first.
Why
This is FREE. We give EVERY kid a free basketball. We are giving out free haircuts. They learn skills with 5-6 coaches. We don't care what your skill level is, it can be the first time you've ever tried. In the end, they all receive a certificate of completion and a t-shirt to show they have completed the camp and are a part of a team.
